Flaviar Alternatives Product Overview
Before we begin, you might say we’re biased because we do love our Taster’s Club options and members, but this post is mainly to help you ask the right questions about what you’re looking for and to help you find the best option if you’re looking for Flaviar alternatives.
Both Taster’s Club and Flaviar focus on curating a collection of unique bottles of liquor for members. Both offer premium selections, and both give members a convenient way to get consistent access to a variety of interesting bottles.
The differences are mainly in how each business is structured and what each membership includes. This is why it’s good to know what you’re looking for before you make a choice. You can even try both Taster’s Club and Flaviar for a short 3 months, and decide which one you prefer. Even though the experiences may be different, you’ll receive excellent value from both, and we think life should be full of choices and experiences (and liquor!).
Flaviar Alternatives: Membership Types
Taster’s Club: Taster’s Club offers 11 different clubs based on your spirit of choice- Whiskey, Scotch, Scotch Pro, Bourbon, Tequila, Tequila Pro, Gin, Rum, Vodka, Wine, and Stock the Bar (where you’ll receive different bottles to help give your home bar a nice variety). You can choose a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month membership, and you can even give a membership as a gift. Once you become a member, you’ll receive one full-sized bottle per month. Members choose the club, and we choose the bottles.
Flaviar: Flaviar offers quarterly and yearly memberships. Each quarter, you’ll receive a Tasting Box with 3 vials of 50 ml samples of liquor, and there is usually a theme every quarter. You can choose the types of liquor you like or you’ve tried, but Flaviar chooses which bottles they send to you. However, with your membership, you receive a credit to receive a full bottle of your choice.
What comes with the membership?
Taster’s Club: We work closely with our partners and distilleries to choose the most premium, high-quality bottles we can find. With a Taster’s Club membership, you’ll receive one finely-curated bottle chosen just for you each month, worth $40-$184, depending on the club. You’ll also receive educational material- a PDF document with information about the bottle, the brand, the distillery, plus expert-level tasting notes.
Flaviar: With Flaviar, every quarter, you receive a credit for a Tasting Box, which includes 3 spirits for you to try, and a credit for a bottle that is worth $40-$60, and both are shipped for free. To order more tasting boxes, the prices are $40 to $80 per box, and you also have the option to order extra full bottles from the website; prices vary by location and availability.
Knowing What you’re receiving/Element of Surprise
Taster’s Club: At Taster’s Club, we’re known for our surprise selections. While we have a growing list of brands and distilleries we work with, we typically don’t announce a month’s feature ahead of time. We like surprising our members with new, interesting bottles so you can try something new, expand your palette, and maybe even discover a new favorite. If you like a bottle, you can peruse our Bottle Shop (only available to members) to order extra or select another full-sized bottle to try. We’re also well-known for our Gifting Option which allows you to purchase a club for another person and send the recipient a personalized welcome certificate.
Flaviar: With Flaviar, there’s a mix of choice and surprise. You can choose the types of liquor that you like, but you can’t choose which vials come in your Tasting Box. You can, however, choose your full-sized bottle, and you can order extra bottles from their site.
Frequency of Shipping
Taster’s Club: Taster’s Club sends members one full-sized bottle per month, and we have two rounds of shipments per month. This way if you sign up after our first big shipment, you don’t have to wait another full month to receive your next bottle- you’ll receive one before the end of the month. We bill monthly, but you also have the option to pay for your membership in-full, when you sign up.
Flaviar: Flaviar ships one Tasting Box of three small sample vials per quarter that includes free shipping. They also give members a monthly credit for free shipping on a full bottle of your choice and a credit for one free bottle worth $40-$60. Membership billing comes in two tiers: quarterly and annually.
Taster’s Club: At Taster’s Club, we’re able to ship to most of the continental United States; however, we’re currently unable to ship to the following states:
- North Dakota
We also don’t ship internationally or to Canada at the moment.
Flaviar: Flaviar ships to all European countries except military states and some states in the United States except the following:
- Puerto Rico
- South Dakota
- West Virginia
Taster’s Club: We ship our bottles in plain inconspicuous cardboard box shippers. This way, if you choose to have your bottles shipped to a business address, no one will know that it’s alcohol.
Remember when you’re designating a shipping address for your membership that a person 21 years of age or older must be present to sign for the package.
Flaviar: Flaviar’s vials are shipped in a round, padded cylinder box to ensure their vials and bottles don’t break. They also include coasters with tasting notes.
Taster’s Club: The cost of a membership depends on the club you choose. Our least expensive clubs are Gin or Vodka (each $44/month), Wine ($49/month), and Tequila or Rum (each $54/month). Our more expensive clubs are Bourbon Club, Whiskey Club, Scotch Club, and our Pro memberships, which range from $69 to $184 per month. We bill monthly before each bottle is shipped.
Be sure that if you move or change locations to update your address in your membership profile so that there are no delivery delays or re-shipping fees.
Flaviar: Flaviar memberships come in two tiers: quarterly and annual. Quarterly memberships cost $95 and are billed at $31.67 per month over three months. Annual memberships cost $300 per year and are billed at $25 a month, and they offer free shipping for one bottle or Taster Box per month.
Customer Service and Support
Both Taster’s Club and Flaviar work hard to improve their customer support and relations daily, with dedicated teams who specialize in customer happiness. However, Taster’s Club has a small, robust team that works together and communicates frequently, so that none of our customers fall through the cracks and have unanswered questions or concerns.
Taster’s Club: Taster’s Club is a simple 3-step process: First, choose whether you’d like to purchase a club for yourself or to give as a gift. Choose the club you want to be in or give, enter your payment info, and check your email for confirmation that you’re in the club. Easy peasy.
Flaviar: It used to be that Flaviar was an invitation-only club where would-be members had to wait for months for spots to open up, but now it seems that the wait has been cut down to just a few days. When you join, you choose the brands or bottles that you’ve already tasted so they get a feel of what types of liquor you’ll enjoy.
Taster’s Club: Taster’s Club is run by a small dedicated team, all from different places and backgrounds, but united in one purpose- to offer our members a uniquely-curated spirits experience. Because we’re a small, tight team, we are quick and agile in our approach. We can quickly change a procedure to give our members a better experience, and we respond quickly to our members’ questions and concerns. We operate in the US, and we thrive on solid, steady growth, making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Flaviar: Flaviar is a bigger machine with lots of moving parts, which can also take more time and effort to keep it running steadily. It can be challenging to change a procedure within an operation that hinges on so many parts. They can serve members in the UK, and their newest office is located in New York, which gives them a benefit stateside.
Flaviar Alternatives: Decision Time
Now that you’ve read about Flaviar alternatives and seen some of the similarities and differences between club subscriptions, what do you think? Which do you prefer? Maybe you even prefer one of the other Flaviar alternatives- we’d love to know which one. Either way, we’re sure you’ll enjoy your premium alcohol bottles and samples, and we hope you thoroughly enjoy whichever experience you choose.
