We already know that some of the most unique bourbons come out of Louisville, Kentucky, the epicenter of the American spirits industry, but sometimes we come across a producer that we can’t wait to share with you.
Barrell Craft Spirits isn’t a distillery per se, but as an independent bottler, they focus on blending and finishing exquisite, sourced barrels from a variety of distilleries, creating products that are greater than the sum of their parts. Founder Joe Beatrice has built his career on new ideas, and he continues to bring award-winning spirits to us that are sourced and blended from exceptional casks and established producers.
This approach is unique in the United States, but not the world. Scotland’s long-established independent bottlers were a major inspiration, and Joe was captivated by their ability to elevate barrels of whisky into something exquisite. Joe’s visionary instincts were spot on. Barrell Craft Spirits’ cask-strength small-batch and single-barrel releases quickly became an influencing force in American whiskey, picking up awards from the world’s most prestigious spirits competitions.
We’re thrilled to share with you a bottle of Barrell Craft Spirits Private Reserve Bourbon Whiskey, a marriage of bourbons from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, constructed from a volumetric recipe based on a component age statement. This is an exercise in micro-blending because Barrell Craft Spirits selected bourbons of four different ages, and blended them to make a product that spans the greatest spectrum of flavor. With each release, a new set of base bourbons are selected, so this specific recipe is only made once.
