This timeless blend of rye whiskey or brandy, bitters, sugar, and a touch of absinthe isn't just a drink—it's a sip of history dating back to 1838. Officially crowned New Orleans' cocktail royalty in 2008, the Sazerac has always been at home in the vibrant heart of the Crescent City. Ready to craft your own piece of history? Sazerac Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
  • Absinthe (or Herbsaint) rinse
  • Lemon peel (for garnish)
Directions:
  • Start by chilling an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice and setting it aside.
  • In a separate mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube with a few drops of water until it dissolves.
  • Add the rye whiskey and Peychaud's Bitters to the mixing glass with the sugar mixture.
  • Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir well until the drink is properly chilled.
  • Empty the ice from the chilled Old Fashioned glass and rinse it with a small amount of absinthe, coating the inside of the glass. Discard any excess absinthe.
  • Strain the chilled whiskey mixture from the mixing glass into the absinthe-rinsed glass.
  • Garnish the cocktail by expressing the oils from a lemon peel over the drink, and optionally, rub the peel on the rim of the glass.
  • Enjoy your classic Sazerac cocktail!
