The Best Champagne for a Mimosa [Beginner to Expert]

Written by Taster's Club Internal Team

Written by Andrew L. | Published July 2026

Whether you’re looking to host a fun brunch with friends on your patio or you’re looking to impress a special someone over a fancy lunch, the Champagne you choose can completely dictate the vibe and significance of what’s happening.

The expert team at Taster’s Club, made up of Andrew L., our bottle partners, and general managers, has curated ten exceptional bottles, ranging from beginner picks to intermediate picks to true connoisseur selections.

Let's jump in!

What Spirits Make a Great Mimosa?

An amazing mimosa takes a dual effort to choose the right Champagne for the occasion, and use an orange juice that mixes well, typically an organic orange juice, if available.

The Champagne you choose sets the tone for the gathering or event, and can also dictate the profile of your mimosa, as not all Champagne is made the same. Some provide deeper fruity notes while others sit on the drier side.

While you may hear that mimosas can be made with sparkling wine or Prosecco, we find that Champagne truly holds up the best to the orange juice, without overpowering it or the need to search for the crisp notes.

Use a 2-1 ratio for a classic approach, but feel free to use more or less juice, depending on how refined you want your mimosa.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz chilled Champagne
  • 1 - 2.5 oz of orange juice
  • Garnish: Orange peel or lemon peel

Directions

  • Pour your Champagne into a flute or tulip glass.
  • Then, add the orange juice, pouring gently to not disturb the bubbles too much.
  • Dab your bar spoon in and out of the drink to subtly mix.
  • Finally, garnish and serve.

Ready to move from everyday bubbles to something with more character?

Laurent-Perrier “La Cuvée” Brut Bottle

Laurent-Perrier “La Cuvée” Brut

This fine bottle received a gold medal at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (2021). La Cuvée is led by a high ratio of Chardonnay and aged on the lees for a complex nose, palate, and finish that wraps with a mix of both sweetness and dryness. Basically, this Champagne is clean and precise for the drinker that wants more than an everyday bottle.

Why It’s Perfect for Your Mimosa

Because this is a Chardonnay-forward Champagne, there’s a freshness that greets the sweetness of the orange juice, with a slightly less dry finish than a pinot-forward Champagne. It’s clean and pairs well with an organic orange juice that’s naturally sweet, with no additional sweeteners. Are Mimosas Better With Champagne or Prosecco?

In our experience, Champagne is king when it comes to a mimosa. While a fine Prosecco can make a lovely mimosa, it doesn’t have the strong backbone to truly hold up against the juice throughout the entire cocktail. A Prosecco is also more fruity and slightly less bubbly and complex.

Your cocktail experience

If you prefer a more refined cocktail, go with a Champagne. If you prefer something even more approachable than Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut, then a Prosecco might be worth exploring.

Gifting?

If you’re gifting, definitely go with the Champagne. The prestige of this class of spirit is unlike that of any other spirit.

What's the Best Juice For Mimosas?

While orange juice is the typical juice of choice, if you’re looking to change things up a bit, a grapefruit juice is also an excellent choice. The bitterness from the grapefruits hold extremely well against the dryness of the Champagne, for a blend you can sip easily.

Passion fruit juice can also provide a unique take on a mimosa, but be careful, as it can easily overpower the nose and palate of your Champagne. For a passion fruit juice, we recommend leaning towards a demi-sec, like Armand De Brignac Ace of Spades Demi-Sec Champagne or a Chardonnay-forward bottle like Laurent-Perrier “La Cuvée” Brut.
