The journey begins with a multi-mashbill blend of spicy, high-rye 6- and 7-year-old barrels, which are harmonized with the softer, dark cherry and butterscotch notes of 8-year-old bourbons. After resting for two months, 13-year-old barrels are introduced, adding a bright wave of fruit flavors. On the nose, vibrant aromas of lemon, cherry, and banana emerge alongside herbaceous rye. I was lucky enough to be a part of opening a bottle over a long weekend a few months back with some good friends, and I knew when I returned home I needed to find a bottle (or two) for the shelf. The memory stayed with me for sure, and I was not disappointed to open one for myself. I'm not much for tasting notes, but carmel and old leather with dried fruits and nutmeg, even a little butterscotch, both on the tongue and on the nose. The mouthfeel is wonderful, especially for a high proof and the finish lingers just right for another sip.
