Herbert Weis, a former marathon runner, merged his father’s estate Weingut Weis with the 150-year-old estate Erben von Beulwitz in 1982 when he purchased it from the former owner. He’s since then dedicated himself to the goal of producing wines of the highest quality every year, which are shaped by their origins and are developed individually and with great sensitivity.
To maintain the distinctiveness of the wines from top sites, Herbert Weis relies on his many years of experience and the most natural wine growing processes possible. A strict selection of hand-picked grapes is a prerequisite for reflecting the terroir in the wines. Filigree Rieslings with a sense of place and a beautiful structure result from this gentle handling of the grapes in the vineyard and the skillful upbringing in the cellar.
The quality of the Von Beulwitz wines is fantastic. The wine estate is a member of the Bernkasteler Ring, the oldest wine auction association on the Mosel. Weingut von Beulwitz is the only member with top sites on the Ruwer. It holds 7.5 ha of vineyards, including parcels in the top site of Kaseler Nies’chen with an emphasis on high-quality Riesling wines.
It's often assumed that a Riesling labeled Kabinett (without trocken, halbtrocken, or feinherb) is the traditional, delicate near-dry style. Mosel wine lovers speak highly of these so-called classic Kabinetts, with the best examples having a wonderful levity and interplay of fruit, acid, and residual sugar. Yet this is only one style of Kabinett, and the Von Beulwitz certainly sits in this fruity, elegant style.
